Welcome to The DEN

The Design Equipment Nexus (The DEN) is a library of parts and equipment available to Systems Design Engineering (SYDE) and Biomedical Engineering (BME) undergraduate students. You can borrow items for school and personal projects, at no charge, for as long as you need.

Get started by logging in with your UW credentials (top right), then browse the inventory to see available equipment, parts, and free items.

Contact Chris McClellan if you have suggestions or questions about The DEN.

How it works

The DEN works like a traditional library: you borrow items when you need them, then return them so other students can use them.

Borrow

Log in with your UW credentials, browse the inventory, add items to your Wish List, and book an appointment to pick them up.

Return

Return borrowed items by the agreed date. Be sure to book an appointment so someone is available to receive the return.

Donate

The DEN runs entirely on donations from SYDE and BME students. At the end of each term, donate unused parts back so future students can benefit.

Keep

To keep a borrowed item, you must pay the fine listed in the inventory. Fines are based on replacement cost. Unpaid fines may block progression to your next academic term or graduation.

Your Profile

When you log in for the first time, a Profile is created for you. It tracks borrowed items and your Wish List. If you notice any discrepancies, contact Chris McClellan.

Wish List

Add the items you'd like to borrow to your Wish List, then book an appointment to pick them up. Please note: inventory is subject to availability, and adding an item does not reserve it.

Book Appointment

Book an appointment for pickups or returns to ensure someone is available. Appointments are typically available Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. (excluding University closures and holidays).
